Askeans 0 Old Williamsonian 40
In the modern world messages can be sent in a number of forms, e-mail, text and in some extreme circumstances one may opt to use the postal service, Old Williamsonian’s sent a powerful message to the rest of Kent 2 through the medium of good quality rugby. As expected the first ten minutes of the game was played in close quarters with the home side dominating the scrum while the visitors broke the line through quick slick hands. It took a penalty from Darren ‘Garfield’ Finn to break the deadlock, from that moment on the old boys began to take control, playing smartly around the fringes to suck in the stronger Askean pack. This game plan allowed the Willies back line the space they needed to break down the host’s defences. A hat trick from fly half Finn dominated the score card with contributions from el Capitano Tom Lord, Steve Franks and Sam Bower proving too much for the former Kent 1 side to deal with. With the game all but won flash backs of the blip in the opening game of the season against New Ash Green began to filter through the minds of both players and supporters. The instruction was “do not concede” this was heard loud and clear as everyone of the 15 stars on the pitch stepped up to be accounted for, try saving tackles from Phil Scott and Sam Bower denied any consolation for the home side. Good victories are often built on a solid defence and with the old boys conceding only 5 points in their last four games a big compliment should be paid to the hard work being put in during midweek training sessions. It has been a long time coming but there is a good atmosphere at the fortress and the Math school Trojans are keen to build on strong performances and compete for the league title. |
